Bees Fall in Season Opener

Box Score Hardeeville, S.C. - The SCAD men's lacrosse team had six different players score at least one goal, but it wasn't enough as they fell to the University of Dayton 16-8 Saturday night at the SCAD Athletic Complex. With the win Dayton improves to 2-0 overall, while the Bees fall to 0-1 overall.

The Flyers struck first scoring the first three goals of the game. The Bees battled back as Justin McGinnis found Jack Cioffi in front of the cage for a goal to cut the deficit to 3-1 with 9:08 remaining in the opening period.  Griffin Hunt picked up the ground ball off the ensuing faceoff drove the field and connected with Eric Potts for a goal.   The Flyers netted one more goal to give Dayton a 4-2 advantage after the opening period.

The Bees came out strong to begin the second quarter. McGinnis picked up the ground ball of the faceoff, drove the field, and connected with the back of the cage to cut the lead to 4-3.  Minutes later, the Bees took advantage of a Flyers penalty as Potts connected with Brendan Buckley for a man-up goal to even the score 4-4 with 12:32 remaining in the first half.

Then Dayton went on a run scoring 11 of the next 13 goals over the course of three periods to give the Flyers a 16-6 advantage with 8:09 remaining in the game.  Andrew Gualtieri and McGinnis each netted a goal for the 16-8 final.

McGinnis led the Bees with three points, while picking up six ground balls.  Connor Goonan made nine saves in the cage, while Connor Summerson tallied two caused turnovers in the contest.

The Bees will return to action Saturday February 21, when they host St. Andrews University at the SCAD Athletic Complex. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
