By the end of the first quarter the Bees knew they were in for a tough game. Knotted at 3 goals apiece SCAD found itself falling behind little by little. At half-time the score was 5-7 in favor of the Flyers.Â
Â
The combination of
Justin McGinnis,
Shawn Horsey, and
Matt Dean kept the game close. McGinnis contributed 4 goals on the day, while his teammates Horsey and Dean chipped in 2 apiece, but the Flyers kept matching goals, plus one more. The Bees were outscored in the second half 3-6 and just could not make up the difference.
Â
Matt Mantel had a very busy day at goalie. He gave up a season high 13 goals, but he also saved 18 more.  The Bees found themselves on the defensive end of the field much of the time. The Flyers took a total of 44 shots, which is a good number. For them to score only 13 goals is a credit to the Bees on the defensive side.
Â
The 13-8 loss results in a 5-3 overall record for the Bees. They are still undefeated in the Southeast Division of the Conference at 2-0. The Bees play next against the University of St. Thomas in Fort Wayne, Indiana. SCAD will play an additional game in Fort Wayne against Indiana Tech before returning home to play their final conference game against Georgia Southern on April 5.
