Box Score

The Women's Lacrosse Team travelled to Tampa, Florida to take on the University of Tampa Spartans. And once again the Bees showed their stingers early in the game and then held on to win the game.  Bringing an 8-0 record into the game the Bees jumped on the Spartans early in the first half.

In the first five minutes the ladies had a 2-0 lead thanks to unassisted goals by Charlotte Cutts and Joanna Ehatt.  Jordan Cook made it 3-0 at the eleven minute mark.  Torii Clark scored just under 7 minutes left in the half to push the lead to 4-0.  And when Ehatt scored her second goal at the 6 minute mark the game looked like it was a in the bag at 5-0.  But the Lady Bees had seen this before.  Just a few days ago the women had a 3-0 lead on West Virginia Wesleyan and the Bobcats came back to take a lead.

This time it was a 5-0 lead, but the Spartans, like the Bobcats, did not give up.  Slowly, but surely, they started pecking away at the lead.  Tampa scored their first goal at the 2:33 mark - their second goal at the 1:20 mark - their third goal 9 seconds later at the 1:11 mark.  And then to add insult on injury, the Spartans scored another goal with 33 seconds left in the half.  The 5-0 lead was now down to one at 5-4.

Half-time could not have come quickly enough for the Lady Bees.  They needed to gather themselves because the momentum had shifted.  Could SCAD come back strong?  It did not seem so when the Spartans scored their 5th goal in the first two minutes of the second half to tie the game at 5 apiece.  For a minute (actually it was less than a minute) the Bees seemed to have lost their buzz.  But then things changed.

When Ehatt scored her third goal 55 seconds later the Bees came back to life.  Kayla Nelson scored 50 seconds later to push the lead to 7-5.  The Spartans scored their sixth goal and everyone knew that it was going to be a battle to the final buzzer.

With 4:36 on the clock the Spartans cut the SCAD lead to one.  The score was 10-9.  Could the Bees hold on?  They did not just hold on.  They did what good teams do when the going gets tough.  They got tougher.  Charlotte Cutts gave the Bees a breath of fresh air when at the 1:28 mark she scored her second goal of the game and took the wind out of the Spartans' sail.  SCAD did not coast to a victory, but they sealed the deal by winning another close one against a good team.

SCAD is now 9-0 and they have 11 days to get ready for St. Andrews Presbyterian College.  Just two games remain for the Bees before they go to Columbia, S.C. to take part in the South Region NWLL Championships.  This team is for real folks.  Take a look at the game results above to see that once again it took a team effort to win.  That is what good teams have - a team effort.
