Box Score The Lady Bees had a big win Sunday night when they defeated previously unbeaten Thomas University with a final score of 2-0. In fact, this is the opposing Lady Hawks first conference defeat since last October.
"Thomas University is a good team and it wasn't easy to beat them," Coach
Rebecca Gunn said. "Our players dug deep and, in the second half, found their rhythm and came away with the result we wanted."
The first period of play was a stalemate with both teams failing to capitalize on the few shots taken, SCAD with five and Thomas with three.
The second period was different. The SCAD women created some chances and finally scored when a ball was played behind Thomas's high line at half. Alex Weinberg ran from half, took a few touches and ripped a shot past the Thomas goalkeeper into the upper corner, giving SCAD a lead at 1-0.
Four minutes later, SCAD scored again when
Lisa Singleton got the ball to the end line and played a firm pass to the top of the six for
Kelly McKay to put away first touch.
SCAD's
Natalie Besl came up huge as well. She read the game so well and cleared up some dangerous situations created by the Thomas attack, including a goal line clearance. She was a big reason for the shutout victory. SCAD's seven wins have all been shutouts, meaning the opposing teams made no goals in those games. Goalie
Sara Hall has six of them in her resume.
The Lady Bees now stand with a record of 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the Sun Conference.
Next up for the Bees is a home game. The women have played the last five games on the road, so coming home after a big win will be special. We hope to see another large crowd as we root on the Lady Bees!
Both the SCAD men and women play on Friday, Oct. 17. The women will play at 5 p.m. against Warner University. The men will follow at the end of the women's game and will take on Northwood University. Be sure to add both games to your calendar.
