KANSAS CITY, Mo. – SCAD's
Lucas Martinez dominated the faceoff circle last week, playing a pivotal role in the program's historic 6-0 start — the best in school history. His consistent control has fueled the Bees' momentum on game days and helped set the tone defensively.
For his efforts, Martinez earns his first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
SCAD's faceoff master this season was nearly perfect in the rout of Shorter, winning 11-of-13. He stayed on target as well, putting 100% of his shots on frame while picking up nine ground balls.
Then, a few days later, he was just as dominant, going 13-of-18 in the faceoff circle. He added 10 more ground ball pick-ups to his weekly total and once again stayed locked in, putting all of his shots on frame.
Overall, Martinez has been a key to the Bees' best start in program history. In just the two games last week, he was a combined 24-of-31 on faceoffs, picked up 19 ground balls, and sent all of his shots on frame, a perfect 100%.
SCAD will return to action on Feb. 28, when they meet (RV) Michigan-Dearborn in Montreat, N.C., for a 1 p.m. ET faceoff.
