No. 19 Women’s Soccer Advances to SUN Semifinal with Win

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The No. 19 SCAD women's soccer team defeated Ave Maria 1-0 in double overtime in the Sun Conference quarterfinal, advancing to the semifinals on Saturday.
 
RECORDS: The Bees are now 9-5-4 overall, while the Gyrenes are now 5-8-5.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD put on an offensive show Wednesday night, taking 37 shots, 17 of which were on goal, while holding Ave Maria to only four shots, one on goal in the 1-0 win.
 
Despite the offensive prowess, Ave Maria's goalie, Emma Schweitzer, totaled 16 saves, keeping the game scoreless through regulation plus one overtime period.
 
Just under four minutes into the second overtime period, Ida Akesson fired a shot from 30 yards out that found the top right corner of the net to give SCAD the 1-0 win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: The Bees' defense held Ave Maria to only four shots, one of which was on goal, while SCAD's offense took 37 shots, 17 on goal.
 
Ida Akesson and Lois Beer totaled seven shots each, with Akesson earning the game-winning goal. Mia Gomez totaled five shots, while Aleca Garcia Velaza added four. Haidyn Jenkins, Mina Haggstrom, Vera Wikstroem, and Irma Olesen totaled three shots apiece.
 
Goalie Saga Bryntesson faced one shot and made one save in her 104 minutes of work.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will travel to No. 3 Keiser University on November 8 for a Sun Conference Semifinal. Kick off is slated for 1:30 p.m.
