TAMPA, Fla. – SCAD's Lois Beer has been named the Sun Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year.

This is Beer's first Sun Conference major award.

For the second-straight year, Lois Beer has been named to the Sun Conference First Team. The graduate student has started all 17 games this season and has played 1,410 of the possible 1,530 minutes, equaling 92 percent of the games played.

Beer led SCAD's defense, only allowing 130 shots, 65 on goal, for a shot on goal percentage of .500. SCAD has held its opponents to only 47 corner kicks thus far this season. The Bees have allowed only 13 goals this season, for a 0.76 goals-per-game average, to go along with 10 shutouts.

"Lois is our captain and the cornerstone of our defense," states Head Coach Rebecca Gunn. "She leads with strength, composure, and determination. Organizing, directing, and battling for every play. Her relentless, never-give-up attitude has inspired those around her to elevate their game.  I couldn't be prouder of all she has accomplished in her two years at SCAD. This award is a true testament to her hard work, leadership, and perseverance."

The Bees will host Ave Maria University on Wednesday, November 5, at 4:00 p.m. at the SCAD Athletics Complex for a Sun Conference Quarterfinal.
