LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The SCAD men's and women's bowling teams finished first at the NAIABCA Invitational over the weekend, making it the second tournament in a row in which the Bees earned the sweep.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT: The three-day invitational consisted of three tournaments, with the first two tournaments determining seeding for match play for the third tournament.
On day one, teams competed in five individual team games. On day two, teams competed in 25 baker games. The combined scores from days one and two determined seeding for the best of seven match play on day three.
MEN'S RESULTS:
Individual Games: After the first tournament, the Bees had a total pinfall of 5560 to finish in first place.
Kai Evans won the individual title with an average of 234, while
Christian Liquori finished third with an average of 231; both earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
Baker Games: After 25 Baker Games, the Bees had a total pinfall of 5013 to finish in second place. The University of Pikeville won with a total pinfall of 5201.
Match Play: SCAD qualified as the No. 2 seed and faced No. 7 University of Mobile in the first round. The Bees won 196-185, 171-188, 238-183, 232-207, and 238-161 to advance to the semifinal.
In the semifinal, the No. 2 Bees faced No. 3 Saint Xavier and won 207-178, 221-167, 243-222, 199-212, 248-255, 205-214, and 258-194.
In the final, No. 2 SCAD defeated No. 8 Midland 254-199, 187-147, 168-198, 198-162, and 191-172 to be named the Overall Champion.
WOMEN'S RESULTS:
Individual Games: SCAD finished the first tournament with a total pinfall of 5067 for first place.
Lara Kurt won the individual title with an average of 220.4.
Addy Nelson joined Kurt on the All-Tournament team with a fourth-place finish, averaging 213.8 over the five games.
Baker Games: With a total pinfall of 4642, SCAD finished in second place in the baker tournament. The University of Pikeville finished first with a total pinfall of 4666.
Match Play: The Bees qualified as the No. 1 seed heading into match play. In the first round, SCAD faced No. 8 Baker and won 196-148, 245-192, 163-124, 135-173, and 199-197.
The No. 1 Bees defeated No. 5 Midway 200-144, 186-172, 209-206, and 205-154 to advance to the final.
In the final, No. 1 SCAD defeated No. 2 Pikeville in straight games, 182-155, 222-176, 176-171, and 185-172.
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will travel to the Tier 1 Kegel ISBPA Collegiate Classic in Addison, Ill. on January 18-19.
