WICHITA, Kan. – The SCAD men's and women's bowling teams competed this weekend at the Tier 1 MidStates Collegiate, with both teams finishing in the top eight.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT: The two-day tournament consisted of six individual games followed by 16 baker games to determine seeding. The top eight teams advanced to the best-of-five match play to determine the winner. The top five individuals earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
BAKER 300: For the second time in program history, the men's bowling team combined for a perfect baker game.
MEN'S RESULTS: At the conclusion of the individual games, the Bees were in third place with a total pinfall of 6141. Wichita State University was in first with a total pinfall of 6345, while Oklahoma Christian University was in second with a pinfall of 6213.
Freshman
Aidan Furukawa bowled all six individual games and averaged 222.3 to finish in third place, earning him a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
SCAD finished qualifying with a total pinfall of 9286 to place second, behind No. 1 Wichita State (9729) heading into match play.
The No. 2 Bees faced No. 7 Wisconsin Whitewater in the first match, winning 157-221, 232-200, 183-169, 209-216, 216-175 to advance to the semifinals. SCAD lost 256-255, 150-262, 212-264, 192-225 to No. 3 Oklahoma Christian to end their run.
WOMEN'S RESULTS: The Bees finished the individual games in third place with a total pinfall of 5667. Sam Houston State University finished first with a total pinfall of 5806, while Wichita State placed second with a pinfall of 5744.
Graduate student
Grace Bringham won the individual title with an average of 206.7 over six games, earning her a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
At the conclusion of the baker games, SCAD moved up to the No. 2 spot with a total pinfall of 8565 heading into match play. Wichita State seeded No. 1 with a total pinfall of 8673.
In the first round of match play, the Bees faced No. 7 Midland and lost 159-181, 165-214, 211-225.
WHAT'S NEXT? SCAD will compete in the Tier 1 Bowlero Southern Classic in Marietta, Ga. on November 2-3.
