SAVANNAH, Ga. – Former SCAD Women's Soccer Assistant Coach
Sinead Byrne has been promoted to Associate Head Coach ahead of the 2023-24 season.
After five impactful seasons assisting the program, Head Coach
Rebecca Gunn has made the change in title, saying:
"Sinead has made a great contribution to our coaching staff and team in her five years here. I believe this title reflects her positive impact and increasing responsibilities within the program. Sinead has exceptional qualities on and off the field. Her knowledge of the game, ability to develop players, and drive to compete, make her vital to the program as we continue to chase championships. I am thrilled SCAD recognized and rewarded Sinead's impact on the program by promoting her to Associate Head Coach. I look forward to facing the challenges and successes of this upcoming season with Sinead by my side."
Coach Byrne earned the newly titled Rod Echols Assistant Coach of the Year Award at the 2022-23 Athletics End of the Year Awards Ceremony. Despite a Sun Conference (SUN) Semifinal loss, the women's soccer team earned an at-large bid to the 2022 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament for the second-consecutive season.
The women's soccer team totaled seven SUN All-Conference honors, 16 SUN All-Academic Team members, three NAIA All-Americans, 16 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes, two Women's Soccer Academic All-America First-Team Members, and one United Soccer Coaches NAIA Women's All-American this past season.
For the past five years, Coach Byrne has been a dedicated member of the SCAD Athletics Department, working diligently on improving the department, her team, and herself as she works on her United Soccer Coaches B License.
During her time at SCAD, Coach Byrne has helped lead the Bees to an overall record of 52-37-4 for a .581 winning percentage. The women's soccer team has steadily improved, while Coach Byrne has been at SCAD and looks to continue moving up the ranks in the upcoming season.
"I am extremely appreciative to SCAD, Director of Athletics Amanda Workman Haverstick, and Head Coach
Rebecca Gunn for the trust they have instilled in me to continue to help guide this great program," states Associate Head, Coach
Sinead Byrne. "It is a privilege to coach such incredible artist-athletes and strive for excellence on the field, in the classroom, and the community. I have enjoyed seeing the women's soccer program excel these past five years into a Top-25 team in the NAIA, and I can't wait to continue to build upon our success. I am excited about what's ahead for SCAD Women's Soccer."
