SCAD Men’s Soccer Recruit Spotlight: Class of 2021 – Jose Vergani

SAVANNAH, Ga. – SCAD men's soccer head coach Darren Spong is pleased to announce the signing of Jose Vergani to the 2021 Fall Roster.

"I am delighted that Jose has decided to join SCAD" states head coach Spong. "Jose comes from a very strong background in the game and has consistently competed at a high level. Jose has a huge amount of potential, and we are excited to see him reach that potential. Welcome, Jose! 

Vergani, originally from Venezuela but living in Vancouver since 2014, started playing soccer when he was four years old he is a versatile, vocal and adaptable defender and defensive midfielder. He has been playing with Faly Academy since early 2015.

Vergani went on to become the captain of his age category team for four years as they successfully competed in Vancouver and in international tournaments in Europe. In 2018, under his leadership, the team obtained a second place at the San Marino Cup in Italy. In 2019 his team also became the Champion U18 Premier in the SX International Cup.

Vergani was also invited to train with the FC Metz U17 team. At fifteen, he qualified to play in the U21 Vancouver Metro Soccer League, and he became the captain of this team when he was only seventeen. Vergani has co-captained his school varsity team. In 2018, he was one of the few sophomores awarded with the North Shore All-Stars Player recognition.

About his commitment to SCAD, Vergani had this to say - "Joining SCAD's soccer team is a dream come true. I am looking forward to devoting my attention to two of my passions: soccer and art. My diverse and multicultural soccer experience has taught me the power of teamwork, relationships and always sporting a great attitude, no matter the challenge in front of me. I will bring a high level of effort, courage and open-mindedness to the classroom and the field, as well as a drive to succeed no matter the obstacle."
