Men’s Soccer Defeats Southeastern 2-1 in SUN Quarterfinal

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The SCAD men's soccer team defeated the visiting Southeastern Fire 2-1 on Wednesday in a Sun Conference quarterfinal to advance to the semifinal round on Saturday.

RECORDS: The Bees improve to 7-6-4, while the Fire fall to 6-7-3 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD struck first in the 35th minute when freshman Sebastian Gomez fired the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal, past the diving goalie, to give SCAD a 1-0 lead.

Three minutes later, Kimi Husler beat his defender on the right side of the goal and then found an attacking Gomez, who fired off his second shot of the game, into the bottom left corner of the net to go up 2-0 going into halftime.

Both defenses held firm at the start of the second half, as both teams managed only one for the first 15 minutes of the half. Southeastern broke free in the 66th minute to cut SCAD's lead in half (2-1), but it would not be enough.

The Bees' defense stepped up and only allowed four more shots by the Fire to advance to the Sun Conference semifinals with a 2-1 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Goalie Noa Sonntag totaled five saves in his 90 minutes of work to earn the win.
