Box Score Hardeeville, South Carolina - For most of the second half it felt like the SCAD women's soccer team would pull an upset, but a late Tigers goal gave 15th-ranked Campbellsville the 1-0 win. With the win the Tigers improve to 2-0, while the Bees fall to 0-3.
Both teams came out strong and trading shots during the first ten minutes of the game. Goalie Ande Eich made two of her four first half saves in the first 15 minutes to keep the game scoreless. In the 31st minute Breanna Baptiste got behind the backline, but Eich made a diving save to knock the ball away. SCAD's best chance to get on the board came in 43rd minute when Mackenzie Kastner blasted a shot, but Amanda Howard made the save keeping the game scoreless at the break.
SCAD came out strong in the second half outshooting Campbellsville 10-2. Kelly McKay got the attack going with a shot on goal 1:27 into the half. The Bees took the first seven shots of the second half, including a Meghan Grable free kick that hit off the cross bar keeping the game tied. The match remained scoreless until the 85th minute when Baptiste sent a cross to Devon Burnside for the goal to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Grable and Gabrielle Garbe each got a shot off in the final minutes, but neither was on frame for the 1-0 final.
SCAD outshot Campbellsville 16-12 and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Bees will return to the pitch Sunday when they host Montreat at 1 p.m. at the SCAD Athletics Complex. Livestats will be available here.
