Ann Arbor, Michigan – The SCAD women's soccer team rallied twice, but it wasn't enough as the Bees fell to Concordia 4-2 in the season opener Thursday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium. With the win the Cardinals improve to 1-0, while the Bees fall to 0-1.

Concordia struck first as Heather Emke found Julia Palushaj for a goal 40 seconds into the game. Midway through the first half SCAD drew a foul inside the penalty box, which set up a penalty kick that Kelly McKay converted to even the score 1-1. The score remained that way until 34:50 mark when Concordia scored a goal to take a 2-1 lead at the break.

Both teams traded possessions to begin the second half and both goalies made saves to keep the score 2-1. In the 73rd minute, SCAD took advantage of a Cardinal foul as Meghan Grable netted a goal of a free kick to even the score at 2-2. The Cardinals responded with two goals over the course of the next five minutes for the 4-2 final.

Grable's goal was the first goal of her collegiate career. Ande Eich finished the game with eight saves.

SCAD will return to the pitch Saturday, August 20, when they travel to Mount Vernon, Ohio to take on Mount Vernon Nazarene. The game is slated for 2 p.m. and live broadcast of the game is available here.
