Montgomery, Alabama – The SCAD women's soccer team opened their season netting three first half goals en route to 5-0 win over Faulkner University Monday night at the John Mark Stallings Field & Dalraida Soccer Complex. With the win the Bees improve to 1-0, while the Eagles fall to 0-1.

SCAD struck first as Kelly McKay played a ball over the top to Janelle Morgan, who fought the ball off two defenders, and put a low driven shot into the net for the 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Laerke Michaelsen crossed the ball to Meadhbh Deeney who chipped a ball into the box for Reese Stevens. Stevens made one touch before volleying the ball it into the left side of the net to give SCAD a 2-0 advantage. The Bees struck one more time before half, as Deeney connected with Michaelsen at the top of the box for a goal to give SCAD a 3-0 lead at the break.

It was a similar story in the second half as Deeney crossed the ball from the corner to Alyssa Rodemsky for her first collegiate goal and extend the lead to 4-0. Minutes later, Morgan sent the ball across the box and was deflected by the keeper before Julia Mangione connected with the back of the net for the 5-0 final.

SCAD's back line, led by Natalie Besl had a strong performance in the team's first shutout.

SCAD returns to action this weekend hosting a pair of games.  The Bees will face Bethel in its home opener Friday at 5 p.m. and then Middle Georgia State College Sunday at 1 p.m.
