Box Score

It was a game for the books. The SCAD Women's Soccer team brought a strong offense and defense against Johnson & Wales University in a combination that secured their first conference win.

The SCAD defense has been superlative all season. In the last four games, the Lady Bees have allowed only one goal, but for 90 minutes of play in this game, the Lady Bees allowed no shots. Not just shots on goal, but no shots period.

Ryanne Frazier (B.A., fashion design and marketing) and Kayla Willis (B.A., fashion design) were lauded by Coach Gunn for their sterling defense.  "They kept the play in front of them and did not make any mistakes," Gunn said. "Kayla in particular stepped to the ball and won many 50/50's."

Gunn went on to say that midfielder Olivia Buechler (undeclared) also had a strong game. "She (Buechler) was strong in controlling the ball under pressure and combined with teammates all over the field," she said. "It's nice to start off conference play with a win."

While the defense shined, the offense also had plenty of momentum provided by Alex Weinberg (B.A., advertising design) and Meadhbh Deeney (undeclared), who scored a goal apiece in the first period. Weinberg was assisted on her goal by Theresa Stevens (undeclared), who drove a ball across the top of the box. Weinberg took a touch and tucked it in the far post.

SCAD was able to give some of its newer players some much deserved minutes. It was definitely a boon when SCAD could play every healthy players on the roster.  "But now our focus has turned to Northwood whom we will face Sunday," Gunn said.  Not one to smell the roses, Gunn's plan is to keep the momentum going when the ladies go to West Palm Beach to face the Northwood University on Sept. 28 at 3 p.m.  Keep it going Bees!
