Box Score It seemed that the Bees were always on the offensive in the first two periods of regulation play, but only on two occasions were did they threaten the goal of Faulkner University -based in Montgomery, Alabama.
By the numbers, SCAD outshot the Eagles 18-10, with eight of them were on goal. Faulkner, on the other hand, had eight of their 10 shots result in game saves by SCAD goalie Sara Hall (B.A., production design). The Eagles threatened very few times, but when they took their shots they were close and dangerous. Hall's precision in goal keeper kept the successfully game scoreless until overtime.
When the game ended in regulation at 0-0, it looked as if any mistake by either team could provide the opponent with a victory. The Eagles made a fatal mistake when they fouled in the box. SCAD's Meadhbh Deeney (undeclared) was fouled in the box with 3:36 left on the clock. That gave the Bees the golden goal opportunity. And Olivia Buechler ( undeclared), the team leader with three goals on the season, capitalized on the penalty shot that won the game.
It was a hard fought victory for SCAD, but one that was well earned, especially on the defensive side. Hall was especially efficient on goal. Her eight saves for the day raised her team leading total on the season to 30. And while Hall provided the much needed defense, Deeney was constantly in the action on the offensive end taking eight of the 18 shots for the Bees.
The win was very timely in the respect that the Lady Bees' next game will be their first conference battle of the season. On Friday, Sept. 26, SCAD travels to Miami Gardens to take on Johnson & Wales University. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. Let's keep it going ladies. Go Bees!
