Box Score

On Friday, The Lady Bees took their 13-6 season record to West Palm Beach, Florida to take on the first-seeded Seahawks of Northwood University in the semifinals of The Sun Conference Championships. The team was taking a 7-game win streak along with them and Coach Rebecca Gunn was excited about bringing home a conference crown.

If the previous meeting of the two schools is any indication of what was in store for this conference title, then the expectations were going to be high. In the previous meeting between the schools back on Sept. 28, the game went into double overtime with the Seahawks coming out with a 3-2 victory. It was that head-to-head victory that later proved to be the reason why Northwood was able to have the home field advantage in the tournament.

When the game started it was Northwood who drew first blood in the early minutes of the first period. The ladies found themselves in a position that they had not been experienced in the last seven matches. They were down 0-1. And that score was carried into intermissio

SCAD's Meadhbh Deeney and teammate Alex Weinberg provided the lift to the Lady Bees. Within a few minutes, Deeney played a low driven ball into the box that Weinberg ran onto. Weinberg managed to guide the ball with the outside of her foot past the Northwood goalkeeper. The score was back to even at 1-1. But when Northwood scored two more goals - one in the last minute of the game - the Lady Bees could not make up the deficit...

So SCAD ended its 2014 season as runners up in The Sun Conference.  Coach Gunn had this to say about the season and her players, "Being runners up in the TSC is an accomplishment the team should be very proud of, but I am not only sad about our loss, but more saddened that I will never get to coach this collective group of girls again.  It has been an amazing season, and one I will never forget. We will sorely miss our seniors Ryanne Frazier, Alexandra Weinberg, Hannah Papa, Sofia Bonilla and Mackenzie Nelson.  They have been true leaders this season, and we hope to continue to build upon this true team mentality for the seasons to come."

Congratulations to the Women's Soccer team for a great season.  They ended up with a 13-7 overall record - and as always - Go Bees!
