Box Score
The SCAD Women's Soccer team recorded their third consecutive win Sunday night after defeating the Warriors of Webber International University with a final score of 2-1.
The win brings SCAD to second place in the Sun Conference standings, tying with Thomas University in Thomasville, Georgia (located roughly four hours southwest of Savannah, Georgia). Junior midfielder Olivia Buechler's two goals secured the SCAD win, bringing their overall season record to 9-6.
Going into halftime, the game was scoreless. Both teams had played tough defense, but no one made offensive headway. When the second period began, the SCAD offense intensified. The Lady Bees handled the ball well and passed with precision.
Buechler's first goal came at the 51:44 mark when Meadhbh Deeney achieved a difficult angled shot to get the ball into position for Buechler's net-receiving kick. It was a smart pass. Buechler easily kicked the ball in while the goalie was focused on Deeney. Then, at the 68-minute mark, Buechler struck again after Alexandria Weinberg gave her good feed that secured a 2-0 lead.
The clock ticked down to 15 seconds remaining in the game when the Webber Warriors found themselves in front of the SCAD net. Webber secured a goal with 10 seconds left in the game, but it was too little, too late. Though SCAD was close to another shutout win, a victory is a victory and the team should feel very proud. Way to go Bees!
The women play next on Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. on their home field. They take on St. Thomas University (not to be confused with Thomas University). The SCAD Athletics Complex is located at 3650 Speedway Blvd. in Hardeeville, South Carolina. Take the short trip over the Talmadge Bridge and come cheer on your women's soccer team!
