W. Soccer Moves Up to Third Place in Conference Play

10/18/2014 1:41:00 PM

Box Score

The Lady Bees soccer team kept up the aggressive defense when they took on Warner University at the SCAD Athletics Complex on Friday evening. Once again, the women provided a shutout victory. The 4-0 victory moved SCAD into third place in the north division of the Sun Conference standings, only three points behind second place Thomas University.

It was a great day for the ladies. With an all-time attendance high of 684 fans cheering on the home team, SCAD provided an iron curtain defense and an offense that resulted in four goals, the most the women have scored in a game. This in their 14th game of the season.

First? The defense. Goalie Sara Hall recorded her fifth shutout of the year, while the spirited play of the rest of the Lady Bees was invaluable to the defense. The Royals of Warner University were limited to three shots the whole game and only one of those shots was on goal. Hall saved that one shot to add to her season save total of 52 in 14 games.

The offense was just what Coach Rebecca Gunn was looking for in that seven of her players were involved in the four scores. Scoring goals for SCAD were Kelly McKay, team leader with six, Lisa Singleton, her first of the year, Meadhbh Deeney, second on the team with five, and Claire Puginier, her first goal of the year. Assisting on three of the goals were Sofia Bonilla, Olivia Buechler and Michele Treinen.
