Martin Methodist Downs SCAD Women 2-1

9/8/2013 10:09:00 PM

Box Score

The Women's Soccer team ended their winning streak at three when they were downed by Martin Methodist College in the last 5 minutes of the second half 2-1. Once again the Lady Bees played tough on defense, allowing only two goals, but Ande Eich's 7 saves were not enough as the Red Hawks also demonstrated fierce defensive play.

Nikki Wittak scored SCAD's lone goal around the 30-minute mark in the first half for the Bees to tie the score at 1-1. No one was able to capitalize until the final 5 minutes of the match when the Red Hawks Taylor Samsel right footed a shot into the lower left corner of the net in what turned out to be the winning goal. The goal was Samsel's second goal of the day.

The defeat was a tough one to take. Defensively the Bees are very proficient. While limiting their opponents to a total of 12 goals over 6 matches (an average of only 2 goals per game) SCAD's offense has not kept pace. While scoring an average of 4+ goals in each of their three victories, the Bees have only scored 1 goal In each of their three losses. Hopefully the ladies will demonstrate why many believe them to be a championship calibre team. SCAD's record now stands at 3-3.

Next up for the ladies will be the last remaining nonconference match. The ladies take on Auburn University Montgomery on 9/13 when the Bees return to the SCAD Sports Complex. Game time is 5 pm.

Conference play begins 9/27 when SCAD once again takes to the road to face off agaist Saint Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida at 4pm..
