Box Score
The Bees were never behind in the match at the SCAD Sports Complex, but they could not shake the Warhawks of Auburn University Montgomery team. SCAD got on the board five minutes into the first half on a score by
Nikki Wittak on an assist by
Rachel Walker; however, five minutes later the Warhawks Arna Omarsdottir tied the score at 1-1.
At the 30-minute mark Wittak scored her second goal of the game and 7
th of the season on a penalty kick to once again give the Bees a lead at 2-1. That is the way the first half finished; however, the one goal lead was lost in the 6
th minute of the second half when the Warhawks' Alex Sveinsdottir tied the score at 2-2.
The Bees and Warhawks battled to a draw for the rest of regulation. Even the weather presented a foreboding atmosphere as the match was halted for 30 minutes in the half due to lightning. After a stalemate for the remainder of the period both teams came out in the overtime period knowing that the first goal for either team would result in victory.
This was the time that
Shelby Dieckamp rose to the occasion. Six minutes into the overtime Dieckamp broke away from the pack and dribbled between the Warhawks defenders to score her decisive goal giving SCAD a well-deserved victory. The goal was the second of the season for Dieckamp, but it could not have come at a better time. The win pushed SCAD's record to 4-3.
Next up for the Bees is the first of nine straight conference matches. SCAD takes to the road to take on Saint Thomas University in Miami Gardens on 9/27. Game time is 4pm. Let's go Bees!!
