SCAD Defeats Southeastern on “Senior Day” 6-1

10/26/2013 4:31:00 PM

Box Score

It was "Senior Day" for the Lady Bees and the women's soccer could not have provided a better first half of play for the 125 fans in attendance; that is if the fan was a SCAD fan. Laerke Michaelsen and seniors Nikki Wittak and Shelby Dieckamp led the scoring parade with 4 goals being scored (Michaelsen scored her 10th and 11th goals of the season, Wittak her team leading 14th goal of the year, and Dieckamp her 5th). Olivia Buechler and Lisa Singleton provided assists.

The second half started much like the first half ended. SCAD senior Nina Gonzalez gave the ladies a 5-0 early in the half when she scored her 2nd goal of the year. The Fire countered 15 minutes later when they scored their lone goal of the day, but it was short lived, however, when two minutes later Fiona Gorman gave freshman Zola Owsley an assist on Owsley's first goal of the season.

The 6-1 victory gave SCAD a season finish of 9-7, but more importantly the win gave the Lady Bees a 5-4 finish in The Sun Conference standings. The win this afternoon was the 4th conference victory in the last 5 matches. Their final conference record of 5-4 secured a tie for 3rd place in its division.

Congratulations to Andy Williamson and Rebecca Gunn for a good finish for 2013. We want to also thank the following seniors, who have played their last regular season match for SCAD: Eliza Balen, Shelby Dieckamp, Nikki Wittak, Rachel Walker, Alyssa Drennen, Nina Gonzalez, Grace Bresenham, Anna Genova, Nikki Capizzo, and Ciara Thomas.

SCAD will travel to Beaufort, S.C. to face USCB in the first round of the conference tournament that begins November 7 at 3 p.m. Go Bees!
