A True Team Effort Results in Win over Ave Maria

10/24/2013 10:21:00 PM

Box Score

The game total of eight goals was spread among Shelby Dieckamp, Eliza Balen, Nikki Wittak, Sofia Bonilla, Ryanne Frazier, Alexandra Weinberg, and Grace Bresenham.  Dieckamp scored 2 of the eight goals and added an assist to give her 26 for her career - good for second place on the all-time assist record of 28 at SCAD.

Of the eight goals scored for the Bees, five had assists.  It was indeed a team effort tonight.  On an evening when the ladies showed their solidarity for "Domestic Violence Awareness" the crowd of attendees had much to cheer about  The statistics were staggering.  The ladies took a total of 36 shots, 28 of them on goal.  The Ave Maria goalie was able to save 20 of the shots or the score would have been even worse.

And while the team was hard at work on the offensive end of the pitch, the defensive end was working just as hard.  Natalie Besl, Lisa Singleton, Nina Gonzalez, and Gabrielle Garbe kept the Gyrenes from posing any offensive threat.  Coach Williamson gave playing time to all his able bodied players as the game was never in doubt.  Sixteen reserves got into the match so that it could truly be said "it was a team effort."

Congratulations to SCAD's Sophia Bonilla and Grace Bresenham for registering their first goals of the season, while Wittak scored her team leading 13th goal of the year.  It was a great night for the Bees who raised their conference record to 4-4 with one conference match remaining.

The final opponent for the 2013 regular season will be Southeastern University.  The match will kick off at 1 pm Saturday.  It will be "Senior Day" for the ladies as they honor their ten seniors on the team.  Come out and support your Bees as they gear up for a high seed in The Sun Conference Tournament.
