Lady Bees Defeat Warner University 2-1

10/12/2013 4:47:00 PM

Box Score

The Women's Soccer Team got back on the winning track with a victory over conference rival Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida.  The Bees had suffered two tough consecutive conference losses to Embry-Riddle (in the last 15 seconds of the match) and to Thomas University (in double overtime).  But this time the ladies finally won a close match, 2-1.

The win evens out the overall record for SCAD at 6-6, while improving its conference record to 2-3.  The Bees have four matches remaining on their conference schedule so they need to continue their winning ways in hopes of having a higher seed in the TSC Tournament.

SCAD never was behind in the game, but that did not mean that the victory was never in doubt.  Nikki Wittak got SCAD on the board halfway through the first half.  She was assisted on the goal by Eliza Balen.  The score remained 1-0 at intermission.

Nineteen minutes into the second half Laerke Michaelson scored SCAD's second goal unassisted.  But three minutes later the Royals scored from just outside the 18 yard box to make it a 1-goal game.  The Bees prevailed, however, as Warner could not manage another shot on goal.  In fact, the Royals only managed to take one shot on goal for the entire match.  The SCAD defense on a whole was the difference in the match.

On paper the stats were heavily in favor of the Bees.  The Bees took 27 shots compared to the Royals five.  SCAD had 11 corner kicks compared to 1 for Warner.  Of SCAD's 12 shots on Warner's goal the goalies saved 10.  SCAD's goalies, Ande Eich and Sara Hall, had no saves since the only shot on goal was a score for the Royals.

The Bees walked away with a much needed 2-1 victory and will next take on Webber International in Babson Park, Florida on 10/13 in the Bees' last regular season away match.  SCAD will then return home to play USCB on 10/18 at 7 p.m.  Go Bees!
