Box Score
The SCAD Bees have a wonderful streak going. In the last four matches they have gone 4-0 allowing only two goals. The match against the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies was a somewhat one-sided contest even though the score did not indicate such.
Gwinnett entered the contest at the SCAD Sports Complex with a 4-2 record. Their last three competitions were victories where they allowed their opponents no goals. In fact, in their six matches played, their opponents only had scored only three goals total. But in the evening's match against the Bees, SCAD gave them a taste of their own medicine.
Much of the match was played on the Grizzlies side of the field. The Bees dominated the game offensively by taking a total of 17 shots compared to the Grizzlies four. SCAD had 8 corner kicks compared to the Grizzlies none. SCAD's goalies,
Ciara Thomas and
Sara Hall, each played a half and Gwinnett was not allowed one shot on goal. The credit for this was the defense that the Bees' midfielders and defensive players played. The whole game resulted in the Grizzlies taking only four shots total and these were generally taken from a distance outside the box.
But to Gwinnett's credit, although their offense was nonexistent, their defense was very formidable. Only 6 of SCAD's 17 shots were on goal, but one of them found its mark. At the 69:20 mark of the game,
Katelyn LeRoux left-footed a crossing pass to Meadbhb Deeney, who responded well by kicking a curving shot by the Grizzlies' goalie. This would prove to be the game winner.
The victory brings SCAD's overall record to 5-3. They remain 1-0 in conference play, but that will change dramatically over the next four weeks when the Bees play 8 conference matches in a row. The first of these eight will take place on 9/28 when the Bees face Warner University at the SCAD Sports Complex. Come and see what the Bees are doing. Things are beginning to buzz across the bridge.
