Box Score

In the first match of the 2012 season, SCAD took 22 shots and came up with one lone goal.  In Sunday's match against Brenau University the Bees once again attacked the goal.  Twenty-one shots were taken and this time the Bees came up with three scores.  But on this day the Bees came up against a team who also attacked the net.  Brenau took 14 shots of their own, but the Golden Tigers scored one more time than SCAD and came away with a 4-3 victory.

A total of eleven shots were taken by both teams in the first 24 minutes of the match, but neither team could put the ball in the net..  It was SCAD who finally broke the scoreless tie twenty-five minutes into the period.  On a corner kick, Alexandra Weinberg was able to set up Katelyn LeRoux for the first score of the game.  SCAD had its first lead of the 2012 season 1-0.  The lead held up for about eleven minutes when Brenau broke their scoreless streak with a goal at the 9-minute mark on the scoreboard clock.  There was no more scoring in the first period so at the half the score was knotted at 1-1.

In the second period the Golden Tigers seemed to change tactics by taking it to the SCAD's goalie.  Of their first four shots two were wide, one was saved, and one found the mark to give them a 2-1 lead.  The Bees seemed to respond to this onslaught with one of their own.  In the next thirteen minutes SCAD attacked their opponent's goal six times, but the Brenau goalie was able to stave of the shots with five saves.  The Bees just could not slip one into the net.

In a game that had a number of momentum changes it was Brenau's turn to take it to SCAD.  In the next ten minutes they scored two goals to bring the score to 4-1.  Things did not look good for the Bees.  Down by three goals with five minutes left in the match, the outcome seemed certain.  However, the Bees responded once again.  Weinberg, on an assist by Ryanne Frazier, made the score 4-2.  Then when the fans were just settling back in their seats, Shelby Dieckamp scored to bring the Bees to within one, at 4-3.  In a matter of a minute the Bees had scored  twice.

SCAD's last effort took place with 1:34 on the clock.  Weinberg somehow got the ball in the box, but her final shot went just to the right of the goal, missing ever so closely to tying the match.  The Golden Tigers then played defensively for the closing minute so SCAD never got another opportunity.

SCAD finds itself at 0-2 on the young season, but they are an exciting team to watch.  Good things are coming.  Next on the schedule is a series of five away games.  First up for the Bees is Faulkner University where the Bees travel to Montgomery, Alabama, August 31.
