The Lady Bees defeated the Night Hawks of Thomas University 2-1 in the quarterfinals of The Sun Conference Championship playoffs. Because of their victory SCAD moves on to the semifinals to play St. Thomas University in Miami, Saturday, November 3, at 1 pm.
SCAD played an excellent match on defense, yielding only 2 shots on goal. It was not until the 33:33 mark in the first period that
Alexandra Weinberg was able to put the ball into the net – her 5
th score of the season. Weinberg was assisted on the score by
Shelby Dieckamp – her team leading 9
th assist of the season.
The Bees were credited with a second goal in the final period, but it was inadvertently scored by the Night Hawks. A crossing shot was made, but there was such a fight for the ball that it was deflected off a Thomas player into the net. The score was credited as a team goal, but it would prove to be the difference in the match. With thirteen minutes left in the match the Night Hawks were able to make good on their second shot on goal to cut the Bees' lead in half. Defense was the name of this game. The Bees would not allow the Night Hawks another shot on goal in the last twelve minutes of play.
The Bees fought the good fight and came out with a victory that now takes them to Miami, Florida to take on St. Thomas University. The winner of that game will play for The Sun Conference Championship. Go Bees!!
