Lady Bees Lose to the Northwood Seahawks 5-2

Box Score
The battle of the unbeatens in conference came to the SCAD Sports Complex this afternoon.  It was “Senior Day” as the Bees honored their two seniors Rachel Adams and Katelyn LeRoux on this last home match of the regular season.  SCAD, with a 4-0 Sun Conference record hosted the Northwood University Seahawks with a 5-0 conference record.  The Lady Bees were also on a 7-game winning streak so it was a head-to-head competition of two of the best teams in conference.

The match was as advertised as both teams went on the attack in the opening period.  The quickness of the Seahawks' attack was something the Bees had not experienced this season.  Northwood relentlessly pressed SCAD's side of the pitch to the tune of 9 shots, but to the credit of the Bees only three of them were on goal.  The disappointing part was that of the three shots on goal, all three found the back of the net.  After a period of play the Seahawks were up 3-1.  SCAD's only goal of the period was a score from Nikki Wittak who took a crossing feed from Shelby Dieckamp to break a 10-minute drought for the Bees.

The Lady Bees had their opportunities in the second period as they forced the issue with the Seahawks.  Taking a shot advantage of 6 to 4 in the period, the Bees came very close to scoring on several occasions; however, the Seahawks goalie made 3 outstanding saves to prevent the Bees from making it a closer contest.

The quickness of the Seahawks attack maintained its momentum.  Helen Lynskey capitalized on a much pressed SCAD defense to score three times for Northwood.  Before five minutes has passed, the Seahawks were up 4-1.    Eliza Balen on an assist from Wittak cut the lead in half at the 50:33 mark, but for the remainder of the match SCAD had only a handful of opportunities to do any further damage.

A Seahawks score at 75:04 put the game out of reach.  Of the six total shots on goal, Northwood scored five times.  On this occasion the Seahawks were more proficient, making a strong statement in their defensive effort.

SCAD's 7-game winning streak came to an end, but the 100+ fans got to see a game that had much action.  Hopefully the Bees can bounce back from this disappointing loss and take it on the road where SCAD will face four remaining conference opponents in the next two weeks.

First up for the Bees will be Ave Maria on October 11th at 7 pm.
