WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The SCAD Savannah women's soccer team opened the 2010 season with a 3-0 shutout over the University of Cumberlands Tuesday (Aug. 24) afternoon.
The Bees improved to 1-0-0 while the Patriots fell to 0-1-0. SCAD returns to action Thursday (Aug. 26) when they will travel to Columbia, Ky., to face No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson College in a 7 p.m. contest.
SCAD wasted little time as they took a 1-0 lead.
Shelby Dieckamp scored 35 seconds into the match off an assist from
Amanda Barj, who moved into fifth place into the all-time points list with 55 in her career.
The Bees, who outshot the Patriots 22-8, added a goal by
Megan Jurcak with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
Kelsey Hizelberger closed out the scoring for the Bees as she converted an opportunity midway through the second half.
SCAD goalkeepers
Sara Collins and
Ciara Thomas compiled five saves in the shutout for the Bees. Collins stopped two shots in the opening 45 minutes while Thomas denied three more in the second half.
