Warriors get match winner in final minute against Bees

Webber International University scored three unanswered goals in the second half, including the match-winner with 49.8 seconds remaining to defeat Savannah College of Art and Design 4-3 in a The Sun Conference women's soccer match Friday (Sept. 25) evening at the SCAD Athletics Complex.

The Warriors improved to 4-2-1 overall and to 1-0-0 in the conference as they defeated SCAD for the first time in nine tries. The Bees fell to 2-5-0 overall and to 0-1-0 in the league. SCAD returns to action Sunday (Sept. 27) with a 1 p.m. TSC match against Warner University at the SCAD Athletics Complex.

SCAD took a 3-1 lead 2:43 into the second half as Amanda Barj scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Melissa Feuerriegel.  The Bees looked like they had added another insurance goal minutes later, but it was waved off as SCAD was called offside. The Bees were whistled for being offside 16 times in the match.

Webber International got a goal back at the 60:40 mark as Alisabeth Barry scored off an assist from Natalie Leslie. The Warriors leveled the match at 3 less than three minutes later as Leslie scored off Taylor Larochelle's corner kick. It would stay that way until Cecilie Ancher scored the deciding goal with 49.8 seconds remaining off Larochelle's through ball.

The Bees took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute off Logann Roger's first goal of the season. Webber International tied the match at 1 when Magen Carey took advantage of a SCAD turnover in the box in the 32nd minute. Lauren O'Malley gave the Bees the 2-1 lead with 45 seconds remaining before the intermission on an assist from Cydney Parkes.
