HARDEEVILLE, S.C. -
Natalia Nino scored twice and assisted on another as No. 6 William Carey University held off the Savannah College of Art and Design 3-2 in a women's soccer match at the SCAD Athletics Complex.

The Crusaders improved to 7-0-0 while the Bees fell to 2-4-0. All four losses for SCAD have come at the hands of nationally ranked opposition. SCAD returns to action with a 6 p.m. The Sun Conference match against Webber International University Friday (Sept. 25) at the SCAD Athletics Complex.

Nino scored both of her goals - her sixth and seventh of the season - off rebounds. Nino followed her own shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and booted the ball into the right corner of the goal at the 9:27 mark. William Carey, which took the first 10 shots of the match, took a 2-0 lead at the 26:04 mark. Shayna Turner's initial shot was knocked away by SCAD goalkeeper Stephanie Foster, who had seven saves, but Nino collected the loose ball and put it in the left corner for the score.

Melissa Feuerriegel got the Bees back into the game after she scored her second goal of the season with just under seven minutes remaining in the half. Amanda Barj took a shot from the right corner that Crusader goalkeeper Jackie Denova, who had eight saves, couldn't handle properly. An opportunistic Feuerriegel got the loose ball near the top of the box and knocked it in for the score.

William Carey added an insurance goal by Karina Almendarez at the 68:57 mark. Jeana Erickson threw the ball in to the box where Nino flicked it to Almendarez who was able to get it past Foster's outstretched hands for her first goal of the season.

The Crusaders had to play the final 11:30 down a person as Turner was sent off after receiving her second card of the match. SCAD was able to get a goal back when Barj scored with 5:17 remaining, but that would be as close as SCAD, who outshot William Carey 20-19, would get.
