HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - Melissa Feuerriegel's goal in the 70th minute was the difference for the Savannah College of Art and Design women's soccer team as they defeated Berry College 2-1 Friday (Sept. 18) evening at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
The Bees won their second consecutive match and improved to 2-3-0 while the Vikings fell to 2-1-1. SCAD returns to competition Sunday (Sept. 20) with a 1 p.m. home match against William Carey University.
Lauren O'Malley gave SCAD a 1-0 lead at the 3:51 mark as Feuerriegel served a through ball in the box and O'Malley registered her second goal of the season when knocked it into the right corner of the goal.
Berry tied the match at 1 on Rachel Czyz's second goal of the season at the 68:33 mark off an assist from Kimberley Treese. However, the Bees retook the lead 83 seconds later when
Mindy Beck served the ball to Feuerriegel, who blasted the match-winner from 30 yards out into the upper right corner of the goal.
The Vikings had a chance to equalize the match moments later when Czyz had another opportunity to score but defender
Megan Jurcak cleared the ball off the line and preserved the victory.
