GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Melissa Feuerriegel became the all-time assists leader in Savannah College of Art and Design women's soccer history as the Bees broke out of their scoring slump with a 3-1 non-conference victory over Brenau University Saturday (Sept. 12) afternoon.
The Bees, which had not scored an offensive goal all season, improved to 1-3-0. SCAD returns to action Friday (Sept. 18) with a 5 p.m. contest against Berry College at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
Michelle Kelley scored SCAD's first goal of the season - snapping a drought of 291:40 - off a cross from
Amanda Barj at the 21:40 mark before Laurin Hagin's unassisted goal for Brenau at the end of the first half tied the match at 1.
Lauren O'Malley gave the Bees a 2-1 advantage when she scored at the 60:24 mark off an assist from Feuerriegel. SCAD, which outshot the Golden Tigers 21-5 (15-2 on goal), added an insurance goal when
Gabriella Levandowski placed the ball past the Brenau keeper off a Feuerriegel run with just over two minutes remaining in the match.
That assist gave Feuerriegel, a senior from Clontarf, Queensland, Australia, her 21st assist in her career, surpassing Emma Hastings' (1998-2001) college-record total of 20. Besides the all-time assists record, Feuerriegel also holds the college records for both goals (45) and points scored (111).
