WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Northwood (Fla.) University defeated the Savannah College of Art and Design 2-0 in The Sun Conference Women's Soccer Tournament championship match Friday (Nov. 14) afternoon.
Northwood, which is ranked No. 7 in the NAIA, improved to 16-2-0 after winning a championship for the third consecutive year - the past two years the Seahawks won the NAIA Region XIV title. SCAD, which is ranked No. 14 in the NAIA, fell to 12-6-0. Northwood earned the conference's automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship while the Bees will have to wait until Sunday (Nov. 16) to see if it will earn an at-large berth. It was the third consecutive year Northwood has defeated the Bees in the conference or region tournament and the eighth time in 12 tries that Northwood has defeated SCAD (8-1-3).
Lisa Ohberg opened the scoring after just 10 minutes. After a series of nice passes, Sofia Abrahamsson found Ohberg in space, and the freshman curled her 26th goal of the season past SCAD goalkeeper
Rosanna Lamprey.
Northwood put the game away in a two-minute span in the second half. Didi Jurman leapt to palm away a rising shot from
Gabriella Levandowski, and off the resulting corner, Jurman kept
Selin Kuralay's header out. Jurman's punt downfield was controlled by Katya Salguero, who laid off for Sofia Soras, and Soras ripped a shot past a diving Lamprey from 25 yards out.
