STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – The SCAD men's bowling team finished as the Runner-Up at the Fifth Annual NAIA National Championship on Saturday.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT: The three-day tournament consisted of double elimination best of seven baker games match play. Qualifying seeding before the start of the tournament decided match-ups.
MATCH PLAY: The Bees qualified as the number one team, out of 12, to earn a bye in the first round.
SCAD faced No. 9 Kansas Wesleyan in round two, and despite going down 2-0, the Bees rallied to win 4-2 (178-247, 146-214, 211-192, 237-156, 210-148, 239-219).
In round four, the Bees defeated No. 5 Milligan 4-3 (215-206, 188-235, 225-267, 228-184, 235-254, 234-232, 259-191) to advance.
SCAD lost 4-1 (192-210, 236-145, 187-255, 197-248, 192-243) in round five to drop into the elimination bracket.
The Bees defeated No. 6 Concordia 4-3 (234-195, 244-172, 193-242, 191-257, 223-230, 210-172, 244-225) to advance to the final.
In the final, SCAD would have to win twice to earn the Red Banner. The Bees faced No. 7 Marian and won 4-3 (225-226, 171-255, 245-197, 178-253, 223-193, 224-203, 182-179) to force the if-necessary match. Unfortunately, SCAD fell 4-0 (178-181, 163-234, 183-207, 193-252) to finish as the Runner-Up.
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will travel to the Intercollegiate Team Championship on April 16-20, in Las Vegas, Nev.
