SAVANNAH, Ga. – SCAD Savannah is pleased to announce the hiring of Alec Hoover as the Head Coach of the men's and women's cycling teams.

"I am pleased to announce the hiring of Alec Hoover as the new Head Cycling Coach" states Athletic Director Doug Wollenburg. "Alec will bring a strong work ethic, positive energy and enthusiasm to the men's and women's cycling programs. As a collegiate rider at Lees McRae, Alec rode under one of the most respected college cycling coaches - Tim Hall.  Alec will bring a very good cycling knowledge that will help train our athletes to reach peak performance levels, as well as build a culture of accountability, trust and togetherness. I am looking forward to continued success with Coach Hoover at the helm of our cycling program."

Prior to SCAD, Hoover was the Head Coach of Cycling at Ripon College for two and a half years. During his Tenure at Ripon, Hoover developed the team to compete at multiple national championships and win multiple awards in the MWCCC.

Hoover is a 2017 graduate of Lees-McRae College where he earned his B.S. In Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing – he also holds an Associate's Degree in Exercise Science. While at Lees McRae, Hoover competed on the cycling team, serving as the team's Road Captain during the spring of 2017.

While competing at Lees- McRae College, Hoover won the SECCC Championship Road Race in 2016, Placed 12th omnium at the 2016 Collegiate Road Race Nationals in Asheville, NC, and won the ACCC championship road race in 2017. He is also a two-time USAC Academic All-Star, graduating from Lees-McRae Cum Laude. He was named to the conference's Carolina's Presidential Honor Roll in the spring of 2016.

Additionally to his career in collegiate cycling, Hoover is bringing over eight years of cycling racing experience to the program and Holds a USAC Category 1 racing license in the disciplines of Road, Cyclocross, and Mountain Bike. A New York native, Hoover spent the bulk of his racing career on the east coast, specializing in Stages Races, UCI Cyclocross, and domestic elite criterium racing.

"The team has carried a lot of momentum these past few years since its creation and I am looking forward to facilitating the growth of the program. I thoroughly enjoyed my time racing in collegiate cycling and am thrilled to be back home in the SECCC"

Hoover will travel to his first event with the Bees on December 10-15 as SCAD competes in the 2019 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships in Lakewood, Wash.
