SAVANNAH, Ga.- SCAD Savannah and Director of Athletics, Amanda Haverstick, are thrilled to announce the addition of beach volleyball for the 2028 season.
Capitalizing on what is currently one of the fastest-growing women's collegiate sports in the United States, the SCAD Bees will take to the sand for their inaugural season in the spring of 2028.
Located just minutes from the coast, SCAD's Savannah campus provides the perfect backdrop for beach volleyball. The sport naturally aligns with the local environment and the student lifestyle, serving as an authentic extension of the university's coastal identity and dynamic, creative culture.
"I am thrilled to launch beach volleyball at SCAD," said Haverstick. "Beach volleyball offers SCAD an opportunity to combine athletics, creativity, student engagement, and institutional branding. It is a forward-looking investment that aligns with SCAD's identity while expanding opportunities for recruitment, visibility, and campus culture."
The sport is currently classified as an emerging sport within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and is experiencing rapid expansion across the country. Presently, three NAIA conferences sponsor beach volleyball: The Sun Conference, which leads the way with 12 participating universities; the Great Southwest Athletic Conference, featuring eight programs; and the Cascade Collegiate Conference, which supports six.
To lead this exciting new chapter, SCAD Athletics has officially launched a nationwide search for the program's inaugural head coach.
Details regarding the coaching search, prospective artist-athlete recruitment, and facility development will be released in the coming months.
