SAVANNAH, Ga. – August 25, 2017 – The Savannah College of Art and Design is proud to announce the scholarship signing of state champion Lindsey Stevens of McDonough, Georgia to the SCAD fishing team. Stevens joins a program building on its history-making inaugural season under the guidance of Coach Isaac Payne (B.F.A., industrial design, 2015).

Stevens was accompanied by friends and family at the signing ceremony in Poetter Hall.

A graduate of Ola High School, Stevens and partner Clayton Scott finished in first place at the 2016 Georgia Bass Nation High School state championship fishing tournament at Lake Seminole. Stevens and her partner topped a field of 57 schools in the competition.

"I was there in 2016 on Lake Seminole when Lindsey won the state championship," Coach Isaac Payne explained. "I went with the intent to recruit, and that's where my interest in Lindsey started. After she graduated high school, she took a year off. Then one day she called me out of the blue and asked if there was an opportunity to fish at SCAD. I said yes."

As Stevens recalled, "After I graduated high school I took a year off to work, and at the same time I was following Cody Stahl and Noah Pescitelli online, and when I saw where they signed, that got me interested in SCAD. I contacted Coach Payne, visited SCAD in May, took the admissions tour and saw the facilities and that was it. I knew I wanted to be here."

"Lindsey will be a true asset to our program," Coach Payne added. "She's a proven champion. I look forward to her development as a SCAD artist-angler."
