Box Score The Bees continued to demonstrate improvement as they beat the Brewton-Park Barons 4-2 at the SCAD Athletic Complex on Saturday, September 17th.
SCAD dominated possession from the beginning of the game. The Bees had their first opportunity when Willian Santana slipped in for a one-on-one with the keeper off a cunning pass from freshman Kaleem Haitham. Santana's shot missed wide. Haitham soon got on the scoresheet when Jordan Chambers disrupted Brewton-Parker's defense, Alejandro Gil provided a quality through-ball, and Haitham slotted in for the night's first tally.
The Bees' second goal came early in the 50th minute when substitute Johan Renli crossed from the right to find Torin Melville at the far post. Melville powered a left-footed volley into the back of the net.
Renli scored the third Bees goal in the 55th minute, gathering a great diagonal pass from Santana and converting on a low, powerful shot.
Ahead 3-0, SCAD appeared in control, but Brewton-Parker would not go quietly. Off a short corner, the Barons sent a passing combination to Ricardo Chinchilla for a shot. SCAD keeper Fernando Zeledon got his fingertips on the ball but could not prevent a goal.
The Bees went through a nervous patch culminating in Santana giving up possession at the top of the box, allowing the Barons' Facundo Centurion to score, narrowing the scoreline to 3-2.
Nerves were settled when SCAD senior Jordan Chambers converted a carefully-measured lob in the 83rd minute. Having recognized the opposing goalie had strayed from is box, Chambers' 40-yard thumper sealed the game.
The victory sends SCAD into the Sun Conference portion of their schedule gathering momentum. The Bees host St. Thomas University on Friday, September 23 at 7 p.m., and Florida Memorial on Sunday at 4 p.m. Both matches will be played at the SCAD Athletic Complex in Hardeeville, South Carolina.
