Late Goals Give Tennessee Wesleyan the Edge over SCAD

Hardeeville, South Carolina – After Naim El-Harriti netted the game tying goal in the 88th minute all signs pointed towards overtime but it wasn't meant to be as Tennessee Wesleyan scored a goal with 2.5 seconds to defeat the SCAD men's soccer team 2-1 Saturday afternoon at the SCAD Athletic Complex. With the win the Bulldogs improve to 1-0-1, while the Bees fall to 0-4.

Tennessee Wesleyan struck first as Ben Timms found Jordan Jacobs for a goal nine minutes in the contest. The Bulldogs kept the offensive attack going outshooting SCAD 9-1 in the first half but Fernando Zeledon's three saves kept the score 1-0 at the break.

SCAD came out strong in the second half as Torin Melville got a shot on frame in the 48th minute. Both teams traded possession numerous times throughout the second half. The score remained 1-0 until the 88th minute when Melville made a short pass to El-Harriti, off a corner kick, who then sent a shot to the top right corner of the goal tying the game. The Bulldogs answered in the final seconds as Alex Riihimaa scored the game winning goal with 2.5 seconds remaining for the 2-1 final.

El-Harriti's goal was his first of the season. Zeledon finished the game with four saves, while Drew Funk, who played the final 18 minutes, made two.

The Bees will return to the pitch Friday when they host defending NAIA Champions Rio Grande at 7 p.m. at the SCAD Athletics Complex. In the first game of the SCAD Invite, Southeastern will face Marian at 5 p.m. Live stats will be available for both games here.
