Box Score 1 Two big wins have put SCAD men's soccer in position to vie for The Sun Conference title heading into the last game of the regular season. Victories over Keiser (2-1) and Johnson & Wales (3-0) improved SCAD's conference record to 6-2 (18 points) with only a showdown against Thomas University left on their docket.
On October 27, "Senior Night" for seven SCAD Bees proved to be an entertaining outing against the Keiser Seahawks. The Bees possessed the ball well during the first half but could not advance into Keiser's goal box. In the 26th minute, the Seahawks secured a free kick 25 yards out. Keiser's Reece Weldon thumped the ball over the wall, glancing off
Fernando Zeledon's right post and in.
Ten minutes later, the Bees'
Kaleem Haitham snatched at a volley from 12 yards, splitting two Seahawk defenders for the tying goal. In the 56th minute, the freshman again produced the threat, creating a one-on-one with the Seahawks' keeper who fouled Haitham for a PK. Senior
Tom Rouine tucked the penalty away for the 2-1 lead.
As the clocked ticked away, the Bees mounted several attacks. The most impressive was a combination of intricate passes as
Torin Melville wove his way through midfield. Wall passes with Naim El-Harrati and then
Ewald Bugase produced a final shot that just missed the left post. The center midfield duo of
Jordan Chambers and El-Harrati worked tirelessly producing the deserved 2-1 win for the Bees.
On Saturday, October 29, the Bees secured their sixth win in Sun Conference play over Johnson & Wales in Miami with goals from
Kaleem Haitham,
Torin Melville and
Gonzalo Gelso.
The Bees' superb first half got started by Haitham's spectacular long-range shot cannoning off the underside of the bar and into the net.
Torin Melville scored the Bees second goal directly off a corner kick, his left footed curler beating the Keeper at the near post. Melville kept the pressure on JWU when he again whipped a corner in at the near post where
Tom Rouine flicked on and
Gonzalo Gelso netted the third goal.
The second half witnessed a more balanced affair. The best opportunity fell to freshman
JArthur Grubbs who was put through on goal by a series of intricate passes. His shot skied over the bar, and the game finished 3-0.
The Bees sit in second place behind St. Thomas, with one game remaining. Should the Bees win and St. Thomas lose their final game, SCAD will clinch the Sun Conference title.
