Men’s Soccer Falls 2-1 in Conference Opener

9/25/2015 8:01:00 PM

Miami, Florida – The SCAD men's soccer team netted the first goal, but St. Thomas rallied for the 2-1 win Friday afternoon. With the win the Bobcats improve to 3-3 and 1-0 in the Sun Conference, while the Bees fall to 4-4-1 and 0-1 in conference play.

The Bobcats controlled the ball majority of the first half and outshot the Bees 9-2, but strong defensive play by SCAD kept the game scoreless at half. Goalie Fernando Zeledon made four of his five saves in the first half.

The second half began similar to the first with St. Thomas keeping the ball in their attack area for majority of the half. The game remained scoreless until the 66th minute when Naim El-Harriti sent a cross into the box to Jordan Trinci-Lyne, who headed it into the goal for his eighth goal of the season to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats responded less than a minute later with a goal to even the score 1-1 midway through the second half. The score remained tied until the 83rd minute when St. Thomas took advantage of a SCAD penalty as Victor Cortez found Kris Wilkinson, off a free kick, for the game-winning goal.

SCAD return to action Sunday when they travel to Miramar, Florida to take on conference rival Florida Memorial. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
