Box Score Richmond Hills, Georgia – In the first of four straight games against ranked opponents the 21st-ranked SCAD men's soccer battled 16th-ranked St. Andrews to a 2-2 tie in double overtime. With the draw the Bees improve to 2-2-1, while the Knights post a 0-1-1 record.
Both teams started will strong defensive performances limiting each other's opportunity to score. SCAD outshot St. Andrews 7-5 in the first half and both goalies made two saves to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
SCAD struck first as Jordan Trinci-Lyne brought the ball down the right side of the field and put a well-placed shot in the bottom left corner of the goal to give SCAD a 1-0 lead five minutes into the second half. The Knights evened the score in the 67th minute as Filipe Checco scored off a free kick. SCAD responded less than three minutes later as Naim El-Harriti converted a free kick into a goal to give the Bees a 2-1 lead. In the 72nd minute Checco made a lob shot from just over midfield for a goal to tie the game 2-2. SCAD at multiple chances to win it in regulation but the Bees couldn't convert.
The Bees best opportunity to win came in the second overtime as El-Harriti blast a shot into the top right corner of the goal but Leandro Custodio was able to make the save preserving the 2-2 final.
SCAD's backline of Callum Etches, Tom Rouine, Liam Traynor, and Jordan Chambers limited the Knights to ten shots in the game.
The Bees will travel to Clinton, Iowa for a pair of games next weekend. SCAD will face Grand View State Saturday at 6 p.m. and then play host Ashford Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
