Men’s Soccer Rallies to Defeat Grizzlies 2-1

Lawrenceville, Georgia – The SCAD men's soccer team overcame an early deficit and scored twice in the second half to defeat Georgia Gwinnett, who is receiving votes, 2-1 Saturday afternoon at the Grizzly Soccer Complex. With the win the Bees conclude their season with an 8-8-2 record, while the Grizzlies fall to 8-5-3.

The Grizzlies struck first as Matti Puranen netted a goal off of a free kick to give Georgia Gwinnett a 1-0 lead 16 minutes into the first half. The game went back and forth but neither team could convert before the intermission keeping the score 1-0.

SCAD came out strong in the second half outshooting the Grizzlies 5-1. In the 67th minute, Alejandro Rodriguez Gil netted an unassisted goal for the equalizer. Minutes later Gil sent a cross into the box to Elliot Lane, who made a diving header for his first goal of the season to give the Bees a 2-1 lead. The SCAD defense, led by Tom Rouine, continued to shut down the Grizzlies attack limiting them to only one shot in the second half. That shot was blocked by Francesc Casas to preserve the 2-1 victory.

The Bees were led by Gil who tallied a career-high three points. Fernando Zeledon made one save and improved his record to 8—8-2.
