Box Score
It was a hard fought game from start to finish, with plenty of grit from both sides. The SCAD Men's Soccer team took on Southeastern University and competed in a double overtime game ending with a 1-1 tie. Though breaking the tie would have been ideal, the strong SCAD defense and offense continues to shine on the field..
The Bees dominated the offensive end and took almost twice as many shots as Southeastern University (11-6). Head Coach Tom Melville said he thought his team took charge from the opening play and could have had three goals early on if not for the "woodwork," the upright posts framing the net that deflected the near goals.
Though disappointed in the tie, Melville said: "It simply was not our night, although this was some of the best soccer I have seen from the men's team."
SCAD scored its first goal roughly midway through the first period when Torin Melville (B.A., industrial design) put a loose ball in the box at the 12:51 mark. This was his third goal of the season. Appearing in his first game as a SCAD Bee, Fernando Zeledon (undeclared) played well as the Bees' goalkeeper. He had three saves in his debut.
It did not look like the Southeastern Fire posed any threat offensively, but penalties landed them a few free kick opportunities. One tied the game five minutes into the second period. When the teams came back to the field after regulation they competed in two 10-minute overtimes, ending with no tiebreaker. Both teams only took one shot each, but found no net.
SCAD walked away from the Thursday night game with a season record of 1-2-2 overall, which includes another double overtime tie against Milligan College. The SCAD team now sets their sight towards a first conference victory at Ave Maria University in southern Florida, set for Saturday, Sept. 27, to take on the Gyrenes at 10 a.m. Be sure to check back to see the results. Go Bees!
