Box Score The SCAD Men's Soccer team may not have come up with a win on Saturday night, but they battled Georgia Gwinnett (11) to a tough, drawn out double overtime that ended in a tie. The men remain unbeaten in their last 12 game played this season. The Bees still remain in The Sun Conference at 8-0-1, setting up a key game next week when they take on Thomas University to decide the number 1 seed in conference championship playoffs.
Saturday night's game with the Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies lived up to its billing as both teams battled hard. SCAD took an early lead in the game as
Alex Jamroz took an assist from
Taylor Katsanis for his first goal of the year to give the men what was thought to be a game winner as the teams headed to the last five minutes of regulation play. But the Grizzlies showed why they are so highly ranked. They used a long feed by Martin Lugo and a precise header by substitute Juan Giraldo to tie the game at 1-1.
The statistics tell the story as the two teams were very similar in their output. The shots were 16-14, in favor of Gwinnett, while the shots on goal were equal at five apiece. Corner kicks were 4-3, Gwinnett. To prove the tenacity of the play in the game, there were a combination of 39 fouls and four yellow cards dished out by the officials.
Both Goalie
Fernando Zeledon, SCAD's master at the net, and the Grizzlies' Goalie Lewis Sharpe saved five goals each to keep the scoring low. The men now have come to the place where they need one more conference victory to gain the number one seed in the Sun Conference Tournament playoffs.
That opportunity will come next Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. when the Bees play host to Thomas University, the only other conference team to have a chance to share the crown with SCAD. It will be senior night for the men as they honor their senior players before the last regular season conference game of 2014. Come out and support your conference champions!
