Box Score The SCAD Men's Soccer team started out the 2014-15 season with back-to-back losses. Now, the men have earned eight wins and two stalemates, making them the only team in the Sun Conference without a conference loss. They are the team to beat.
Sunday night added to the success when SCAD secured a home win over Johnson & Wales University.
Jordan Trinci-Lyne drew first blood at the 17-minute mark in the first half when he converted a penalty shot into a one-point lead. It would stand up as the winning goal because the SCAD defense continued their sterling ways, denying Johnson & Wales any goals in SCAD's third straight shutout.
According to Coach
Tom Melville, his Bees "stepped it up (even more) in the second half with an even better performance."
Torin Melville entered the game and, midway through the second period, had a strong impact controlling the ball and giving the men some offensive teeth. Melville controlled the ball and fed
Seth Fite, giving him a chance to assist teammate Naim El Harriti, who landed the second goal of the day in a sublime volley over the Johnson & Wales goalkeeper - two assists on the score.
Melville was also instrumental in the third goal. He held up the ball in the corner and found
Lale Rodriguez, who then assisted
Will Oswin in a quality, outside of the left foot volley that beat the keeper to the far corner.
With an offense that continues to pressure the defense of their opponents, as well as the continuing perfection of their goalie,
Fernando Zeledon (who has a 7-0-1 record in his eight starts this season), the soccer team is on a roll.
Next up for the SCAD Men's Soccer team is Embry-Riddle University, which stands with a record of 5-1-1 in conference play and are positioned to be an exciting and challenging opponent. The game is set for Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Bees are without a loss on the road in conference play this season and we are optimistic they can sustain that record. Go team!
