Box Score After starting the 2014 season with two shutout losses on the road, the SCAD Men's Soccer team has gone undefeated in their last seven games with a 5-2-2 overall (two games were stalemates). With their 2-1 victory over the Bobcats of St. Thomas University on home field this Friday evening, the Bees have moved into sole possession of first place in The Sun Conference standings at a conference record of 4-0-1.
It did not take long for the Bees to jump out on top of the Bobcats. Three minutes into the game,
Francesc Casa (undeclared) took a feed from Naim El-Harriti (B.A., advertising design) and threaded the needle to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. Later, at the 21:50 mark in the first period, freshman
Jake Prescott (undeclared) scored his first goal of the season and pushed the Bees to a 2-0 advantage.
It looked like the Bees were well on their way to giving St. Thomas its 10th loss of the season, but the Bobcats did not lay down quite that easily. After intermission, the Bobcats returned and showed some renewed energy. They found themselves on the SCAD end of the pitch, taking a number of shots on goal.
SCAD's superb goalie,
Fernando Zeledon (B.A., industrial design) - who was named the Sun Conference's Defensive Player of the Week last week - was doing his due diligence at the net. In his five starts as goalkeeper, Zeledon had given up only one solo score to the opponents.
The Bobcats were able to cut the lead in half at 2-1 with 14 minutes remaining in the game. It was no easy game, but SCAD withstood a number of offensive thrusts by St. Thomas.
2014 Men's Soccer Standings SCAD's next opponent will be the fourth place team in the conference, Florida Memorial. At 3-1, the Florida Memorial Lions are only a half-game behind the Bees in ranking. Come out to the SCAD Athletics Complex and cheer on the Bees. The game is set for Sunday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m.
