M. Soccer Defeats Ave Maria 4-0 in Conference Play

9/28/2013 11:26:00 PM

Box Score
The Bees played another fine defensive game, but waited until the second half to show its offensive side.  For 45 minutes the Bees and Gyrenes played with no scoring.  It was not that SCAD had no opportunities.  It was that they could not put any of their 9 shots into the net.  The defense, however, only allowed 1 shot in the entire first half.  For most of the play the Bees were knocking on the door, but could not put Ave Maria away. Ave pretty much "parked the bus"!

The second half was a different story.  After 14 minutes the coaching staff made a tactical change, adding an attacking player in the pocket, to get more penetration. Seth Fite was that player and immediately broke down the Gyrenes when he put through Torin Melville. Melville broke the drought and Fite earned the assist.  The crowd of fans finally had something to cheer about.  It was Residence Life Night at the SCAD Sports Complex and the 158 attendees showed their appreciation.  The mood shifted dramatically and it seemed that the players responded accordingly.  A second score took place 2 ½ minutes later as Jordan Chambers put one in the back of the net.  Chambers fooled the Gyrenes Keeper on the near post from a very narrow angle and SCAD was up 2-0.  That would seem to be enough the way the defense was playing, but the Bees were not through.

It was Trinci-Lyne's evening as he continued the scoring by placing two more goals in the back of the net – the first on a penalty kick at the 77:29 mark. Torin Melville had broken through into the box and was about to finish when he was brought down from behind for the penalty. Trinci-Lyne obliged with the PK. He also ended the evening with a goal with 3 ½ minutes left in the match.  Once again freshman Melville was the provider of the cross as he and Theo Angus combined for a short corner to fool the Gyrenes defense one last time. The SCAD defense continued its good work as the horn sounded.  Final score: SCAD 4 and Ave Maria 0.

The win resulted in SCAD's second consecutive conference win and raised its overall record to 4-1.

SCAD's next match will be October 4 when the Bees take on Warner University in another conference contest.  Game time is 7 pm.  Maybe it is coincidental, but another Residence Life evening is planned for that evening.  Free pizza and, hopefully, another SCAD win.  Let's go Bees!!!
